[Cable says honestly, but fondly. In addition to the fact that Wade is successfully getting him aroused, it's also just a really endearing little mating dance he's doing.
As he pulls himself up, Cable's hands slide over his back. The way the robe sits over him and preserves trace amounts of modesty is funny, but Cable gives lifts his leg under Wade to fullt expose him.
If Wade feels he's failed his mission to work Cable up, he will be proven wrong by the fact that he's hard under him.
Both of Cable's hands move up to cup Wade's face, running a curious thumb over his bottom lip.]
Do you do this for everyone or just me?
[He doesn't know why he's asking that, he doesn't know why he cares. He has a searching look on his face when he looks up at Wade, fighting the urge to kiss him so he doesn't have to hear his answer.]
[ Wade flirts, and he sways slightly, balancing himself as Cable moves his leg, but he instinctively looks down and his brows shoot up, a pleased smirk that seems to delight in the simple fact that Cable is not, in fact, dead below the belt. Just when Wade starts to tell himself that having an erection doesn't necessarily mean anything, that it's just junk physics and friction and warmth coaxing it to life, Cable holds his attention with his hands and he feels the pad of his thumb running over his scarred lip. ]
No. [ Cable's focused scrutiny is intense, and Wade's voice sounds vaguely nervous, vulnerable. There's a brief laugh, more jitters than anything else. ] Why, does it look like I shake this ass on stage anywhere?
[ He might be experiencing a remarkable amount of body positivity lately, but stripping? Nah, not for him. ]
I haven't, not for anyone. [ Wade's hand idly feels the organic metal cords on the side of his neck, his other hand running slow loops up and down his chest. There's a lot of intimacy going on here, but that glowing eye can be a little intimidating. ] Not, not that I haven't thought about it, but it's one thing to fantasize.
[Cable observes, in relation to the idea that Wade does this professionally.
He is so very aware that holding Wade's face like this is very intense for both of them, which means it is absolutely necessary for Cable to maintain this while they talk awkwardly.]
Hmm.
[He hums, a very insightful and useful response after putting Wade on the spot with his question.]
You should do it more often.
[He says finally. If he were in the habit of trying to qualify or justify his statements he might add that Wade doesn't need his permission but that it's a good look for him.
Instead, he just pulls Wade's head down toward him and kisses him warmly and softly. Like friends do.]
[ Wade gives Cable a flat look, because obviously, he was joking. This might be Duplicity, but he's not gonna be out there dancing for money. Not that he has anything against dancers. He just makes a lot better scratch fucking up guys for money. His Dual-Cam clone on the other hand? He tries not to pay attention to what he does, just that there's a tidy little passive income he gets from... whatever it is he does.
But it's hard to maintain that expression when Cable's cupping his face like that, a bit of that glow from his eye reflected on the textured surface of his skin and his thumb teasing at his bottom lip. Is this revenge for fooling around on him? Certainly yes.
Wade's brows shoot up at that final suggestion. Back up, what? ]
What? No no no. I'm not going pro — mmph! [ This is one of the more effective ways to shut Wade up, because he ends up smothering whatever it is he was about to say and ends up melting into the warmth of that kiss, a little sigh escaping through his nose. ]
[Cable enjoys both the kiss and that little noise Wade makes. That is the sound of a Boy who has been Handled.
Cable's metal hand rubs circles on Wade's cheek as they kiss. Once he decides they're done, he pushes down on Wade's chin to unlock their lips so he can look up at him again.]
If there's something you want to do before you go back to her, you better do it now.
[He suggests idly, as if he's totally not as eager for something to happen here. That's why his fingers are trailing down Wade's neck and over his tattoo in a careful line.]
[ There's something interesting about the way Cable ends the kiss, like he does't get a say, it's forceful in a way that's pretty damn hot, although at this point everything he does seems to light him up. ]
Anything I want?
[ Lost his nerve? Never. But feeling Cable, a Dominant, follow the line the city had tattooed onto him (somehow) down the length of his throat makes him swallow involuntarily, his adam's apple bobbing in this throat. ]
So it could be anything from 'tell me what you like about me without lying' or over-the-pants mouth stuff... or give me a contract for Christmas.
[ Wade makes a point to hold his eye contact on that last part. Brows flicking up briefly. Wade slowly reaches for the robe and starts to pull it on.
[Cable mutters, trying to cut off that train before Wade leaves the station on it, but he's too late.
Cable's brow arches at the options provided. One of those is not like the others. Extremely specific. Extremely relevant.
He glances down at his lap for a moment while he processes that. There's a strong feeling of conflict in him, perhaps because everything has moved so quickly or because the disparity between them makes him uncomfortable and intoxicated at the same time.]
Is that something you really want? Not the other shit-- you know what I mean. You want a contract with me?
[He's looking up at Wade now with searching eyes. God, he is ill equipped for a conversation like this.]
[ Poor Cable, having this stupid, horny little agent of chaos in his fucking lap. Wade nods, a nervous smile tugging the corners of his mouth. Brittle, like anything could easily dash it to pieces. ]
Yeah! I don't see any reason why not.
[ And besides, Cable and he are officially friends now, right? And he said he doesn't treat his friends like they're cheap. Maybe Wade can think of a different plan that wasn't 'get passed around like a blunt' every three months. ]
I think we work well together, fit together. I've been around and, just trust me when I say it just hits differently with you.
[ Wade fastens the bathrobe belt around his waist again and meets Cable's gaze. A little hopeful. ]
[Cable questions it, because he has to. Because he already knows that Wade has a tendency to idealise everything. He's not sure if he's really thought about this.
Cable shifts under him, but his hand still falls to his lower back to protect Wade from toppling off the chair.]
I think you're getting ahead of yourself. And I think we work well because you're not contractually obligated to keep me happy.
[Cable admits, mouth twisting as he thinks. He runs his fingers over that line again, curiously.]
[ Guaranteed Wade hasn't thought it all through, but that's because it's the start of an idea. There would have to be conditions decided upon. ]
Exactly. Just saying we got... time...
[ Wade trails off because such a close examination of that bizarre little line down the whole of his throat is not only miraculous that it's there given his healing factor, but for what it represents. It almost makes him feel like he's being appraised under Cable's glowing eye. ]
What kind of obligations would those be, huh? Some Dominants have close to nothing in theirs. [ Despite putting the robe on again, Wade's starting to feel agitated under such careful scrutiny. Wade's hands slide up his chest. ] What would keep you happy? Quiet hours?
[Which is difficult, because Cable really likes his space. But does he like it more than helping someone? Hard to say.
Cable seems to sense Wade's agitation. It's hard to miss when he starts to run his hands up his chest. Unable to help himself, he shifts in to put his mouth over the line, scraping his teeth over it. It's a little possessive for someone being non-committal.]
What keeps you happy?
[It sits better with him when he asks that, gives him something to consider.]
[ Wade understands that he's a lot to deal with at times, but in Orientation it became clear to him that he's precisely the kind of 'a lot' they were looking for in this city. It took him a little longer to accept his designation, and part of him still rebels against it. With the rare exception of a few encounters that were brief, lust-drenched encounters dipping his toe in submission, it wasn't until Cable reentered his life that it felt easy and right.
Cable, not so eager to show his hand, asks to see Wade's. And to ensure a more honest answer he has the nerve to bite on Wade's fucking neck to get it. Wade tips up his chin and yields to it with a shivery breath, his fingers cradling the back of Cable's head. ]
As many rights as I'm allowed. If, if I'm giving up any control, it's because I want to. Not because it's written in some fucking contract.
[ Cable's winding him up again, so Wade's thumbs press into his jaw and he pulls back with a little more force. ]
[At first, Wade tips his chin and yields and Cable thinks Oh, good. We're done talking about this. Then he follows that up by making a valid and surprisingly salient statement and Cable fears they're not done.
He makes an irritated sound as Wade uses his trick against him and ends assault to his neck.
Cable sits back in his chair, giving Wade a flat look but his eyes are appraising him.
He resists the urge to say nothing will make him happy here, even if he strongly suspects that's true. He just hates to vocalise all the doubt and shame he feels, even with Wade. Maybe especially with Wade.]
Why aren't you making a contract with your pirate?
[He'll run out of uno reverse cards eventually, but he does genuinely require this information. He thinks.]
[ You son of a bitch. Wade's eyes widen, mouth snapping shut for a moment. ]
With Ed? Wow. Uh. [ Wade's throat works again, his eyes trying to miss Cable's. ] I thought about it. Yeah. But then I thought it'd just be weird, you know?
When I first got here, I thought my designation was a death sentence. Who'd want someone who looked like Freddy Kruger fucked a topographical map of Utah? Boy was I wrong.
[ But then he met people who didn't treat him like he looked like pepperoni flatbread. Of course, there were those from home — or a variant of it, at least. People who knew a Deadpool, and those were the familiar reactions. Wade can't say he warmed to the designation per se, but he did have fun. Wade lets his thumbs rasp through the light stubble on Cable's jaw, not necessarily having a hard time being vulnerable — it's not the first time they have been, mr. lip balm — so much as never really sparing himself a moment to unpack this messy topic to himself. ]
The whole system is basically 50 Shades of sugaring, so trying to make distinctions between what kind of relationship gets more or less fucked by a contract makes about as much sense as a sandpaper dildo. I get that.
[ So why didn't he? Why does he keep resisting getting a contract with Ed? Even the excuses he's made before sound weak, forcing him to reconcile with the fact he really has none. ]
Maybe it's timing? Something's missing? [ Wade's hands lift in a microscopic shrug and he rests them on Cable's chest. ] Why do you care?
[There's a lot of information here for Cable to process. Not just the stuff Wade is saying, but what he's not saying. The way he looks away is a little telling, but it is an uncomfortable question in an uncomfortable conversation.
There's a little part of Cable that almost yearns to be as honest about his situation. The fact that he just abandoned his family and arrived here has been difficult to process alone. Couple that with the risk of losing his powers, the vulnerable situations, the way he feels about the way he looks and you have the makings of a decent internal crisis.
His demeanour softens, allowing Wade to tease his stubble even though it kind of tickles. At Wade's final question, however, his brow furrows again.]
You're asking me to involve myself in it, I should know where I stand.
[Cable points out, coolly, slotting his hands over the top of Wade's but not pulling him away.]
I know it's a big ask-- needing you to remember something that happened in the last twelve hours-- but I want you to close your eyes and think real fucking hard about how he feels about me.
Involve in what, the whole city is one giant open relationship.
[ Wade's eyes fall on Cable's hands as they cover his, but under that smooth, raspy voice is a sassy little undercurrent. Wade looks at his vaguely satisfied arch and replies with a few degrees of increase in temperature. ]
What, you mean — Oh, come on, you were a total dick to me right in front of him!
[ Wade pulls back, but his hands stay connected to him. Note, he also doesn't fucking move. But isn't that the way they operate? Caught in each others' orbit, even when they come close to colliding into one another to catastrophic effect. They always seem to be near-misses, though. ]
Ooh, I remember plenty, yeah. I distinctly remember you beckoning me to come to you like pspsps!
[ Remember that come hither gesture you made, Cable? Wade remembers seeing that gesture from that metal hand, his head canting at a quizzical angle from over Ed's shoulder as he held his fury back. Cable's hardly blameless here. ]
What are you, jealous? He's got like five boyfriends. [ He's got three total, Wade. ]
[ Just as blunt, but his tone is mild — not exactly trading punches so much as blows from a pillow. ]
This might come as a shock to you? But I'm here after a nice, mature chat with him. He knows I'm here, he wanted me to talk to you the moment you left.
[ It would've been weird if someone with several boyfriends told him not to, and that only endeared him to Wade. ]
I think you wanted to prove something. I think you wanted me to come to you right then and there. A part of you wanted to see me pick you... in front of him.
[ Maybe jealousy's the wrong word. It smacks of envy. And that's interesting. ]
[As is customary, Cable just stares impassively at Wade through a lot of what Wade says. He doesn't feel particular surprise about Ed. He doesn't know Ed. Wade could say that Ed grew a third head after he left the room and it would mean just as much as what he's being told.
He has been able to surmise that he seems to have genuine care for Wade, though, so again. He's not hugely surprised that there might have been a suggestion to come and fix his relationship with Cable.
That is a boring, logical and pragmatic assessment from Cable, at least.
Maybe, deep down, he kind of wishes it were something a little more complicated. But the fact that Wade is cottoning onto that is risky, in his view.]
I think I wanted to stop talking about nothing and get to business. [Flatly.]
And I think you want me to say that I want you to pick me over your boyfriend-- [He really visibly just hates saying that word.] But I don't.
It was supposed to accomplish having a fucking moment to speak to you without Captain Romeo getting in my face but everything about that night went to shit anyway.
[He is growing irritated with his conversation and he shifts uncomfortably under Wade, glancing aside and then back to Wade.]
I'll talk to him one on one. It's not a big deal. [He says, finally.]
[ Wade sits up a little straighter, the discomfort settling in Cable's body being enough incentive for him to drop it. Sensing Cable's growing agitation, he strokes his fingers around in circles on his chest, including over the metal half of it. ]
Okay, okay. I stand corrected.
[ Taking a mental step back, Wade reminds himself that not everyone has as easy time adjusting to chaos like he does. Cable's been here, what, some weeks? And already everything he knew about where they stood, who they were... it's all sideways. Not all bad but it's probably overwhelming. That, and he has a wife and kid waiting for him back home. ]
I know it takes adjusting to. Being here. Even if you're treated like royalty, it's... a lot to take in.
[ Wade says, sincere with his sympathy. Cautious about using it, because sometimes sympathy hurts more. ]
Thanks for — [ Everything. Saving his life, giving him affection. One of the best nights of his life. ] letting me stay the night.
[ Despite the banter, the challenge, and contradictions, Wade is very fond of him. He trusts him, too, which isn't much of a twist. But he was right, Wade did come when called, only hours later, and then there's the not-so-small matter of the heartstopping way Cable rewarded that.
Wade doesn't want to leave. It would mean Cable wouldn't be drawing little circles onto his skin as his stupid tall body sits on his lap in the middle of his kitchen. ]
I should get going.
[ Wade doesn't move. But instead of saying something sappy that he will definitely never live down anytime soon, he says: ]
[Cable's reluctance for Wade to leave is very coolly concealed under an expectant veneer. He arches a brow at him, waiting for him to make some sort of move since he's the one on top here.
Cable feels anticipation hanging in the air for a moment, waiting for Wade to follow it up and feeling fully unable to predict what he might say. He definitely is not expecting that and he grimaces, moving to stand up whether Wade gets up or not.]
Would you shut the fuck up and get out of here already?
[There is absolutely no venom in his voice, just exasperation.]
